THE DRIVING FORCE IN OVERNIGHT DELIVERY FOR OVER 30 YEARS!
One Man's Dream

TBS Couriers began with a $400 unemployment check, a 400 square-foot living room, and one man's dream.

In the early 1970s, Ron Boehm was a Bay Area salesman for a company whose headquarters were located in Los Angeles. His success depended on getting his orders to headquarters overnight. Courier service at that time was too expensive for a salesman's salary and Post Office delivery wasn't fast enough. Ron was determined to find a way.

Ron located truck drivers whose routes ran between the Bay Area and Los Angeles and paid them a dollar a day to drop his orders off at the L.A. headquarters.

Ron soon realized that his situation was shared by many other companies and salesmen. He developed an idea to have a drop-box network, similar to US mail boxes, strategically placed in shopping centers. These drop boxes would provide easy access for customers to drop work off and for pickup by couriers.

Having discovered an untapped gold mine, he now needed a way to implement his radical and innovative ideas.

Ron approached several companies in the courier industry to develop and test market his idea. Purolator and Loomis courier companies hired Ron, but both companies decided his ideas were too radical. Ron then started working with United Couriers, but they also let him go thinking his ideas would never work.

Ron, however, was determined that his ideas would work. He decided to start his own courier company with the support of his wife and partner, Charlotte. Ron and Charlotte created TBS Couriers in the living room of their San Leandro home, with his unemployment check and savings account of $400. Ron and Charlotte also worked for a construction company and painted houses in order to pay the TBS Couriers payroll during the first year. Ron's first customer order from C.B.S. Specialty Stores was a contract service between 50 Pacific Stereo locations in the West Coast.

Now, over 31 years later, Ron and Charlotte Boehm's dream has evolved into an overnight courier company with over 900 employees that service over 4,000 companies in the 10 western states. TBS Couriers' 10,000 drop-box network moves many millions of overnight, time-critical documents annually with the latest pickup time in the industry.

The growth of the company is the direct result of Ron and Charlotte Boehm's vision. Their careful guidance, with the help of their many dedicated employees, has created what TBS Couriers is today - "the driving force in overnight delivery."
